Assassins creed Liberation Fact File
- follows the classic storyline- in one advert is controls instead of gameplay so shows players what to expect when playing
- marketed at a commuting audience, in one advert it is set on a train, and we see the character you play as kill a man, then we see someone plying the game, therefore targeting at an audience who want to play while in public (partially due to PS vita, and the hand held qualities from that but using this to help market the game.)
- used more social media to promote liberation, including Facebook (earning 2 million more followers on such.)
- Convergence - worked with cinemas in the UK to create the advert for Rise, which was released along side Liberation. Gets a more mainstream advertisement as more people likely to see it and want to play if there is a film based on it to educate them about what the game includes
- this live action element was introduced to liberation as well, with an advert being shot on a train (one of the target audiences) with the playable character walking down the carriage
- vita was more compact for travel so targeted a different type of people who were now or rather play on the go instead of using a console which is not portable, so created a new opportunity for people to play and enjoy playing
- Hesmondhalgh- production companies will minimise risk and maximise audiences to maximise profits. with Liberation, it was released at the same time as Rise, therefore increasing an audience/doubling profits as people buy both and creates a brand which can be transferable between products. Games are very similar to pre liberation so no previous experiences benefit and can still encourage new people, trends and ideologies are the same. Liberation was filled with bugs due to game size which reduced risk of company
- by having the first female and mixed race characters, Ubisoft were taking a big risk, therefore by releasing it on the Vita, decreases the risk as it is already a more niche audience
- Sold 3.5million in the first week.

Conglomerate - a large company composed of a number of companies (subsidiaries) engaged in generally unrelated businesses. Some media conglomerates use their access in multiple areas to share various kinds of content such as news, videos and music, between users.
Integration - a combination of media formats and channels that businesses use to share content with audiences. This can be a combination of traditional (like print and billboards) media, digital media, broadcast media or product packaging.
Diversification - where a media company moves from producing one type of product to creating different media forms
Convergence - Coming together of two or more distinct entities or phenomena. Technological convergence is increasingly prevalent in the information technology world; in this context, the term refers to the combination of two or more different technologies in a single device. FOR EXAMPLE: The PSVita - its a combination of a computer game console and handheld WIFI accessible device. On a PlayStation you can play games, surf the web, watch DVDs and Blu-ray etc
The game itself - Assassins Creed - is digitally convergent as the handheld game links to PS3 platform. Owning both platforms allows further concepts to be unlocked.
How are video games made?
Animators create a spine for a character and design necessary movements and features for the participants and focus on features and clothes. Other animators focus on background features. Cinematics are created in high resolution to make them seem more realistic. General play is lower resolution as computers not quick enough to have high resolution for quick paced play
Valhalla was made by Ubisoft workers visitng norway to try and understand the feeling of the idea of where the video game will be based and where the location will be based on to try and inspire how different elements of the game need creating. Went into vast amounts of detail to try and make the experiece for a player as accurate as possible and use real life locations to be the base of where the participants will play. They used motion sensers for actors to try and recreate real life and accurate movements for humans and voices and face scans to make everything look even more real
