Lesson 18/4/23 Riptide Vance Joy
Riptide - Vance Joy
1. The video released on the April 2013 and received 515 million views on YouTube which also included 3.4 million likes. It is a low cost and independent production due to the lack of experience Riptide had, so didn't have the following and popularity they do after other releases
The themes of the song are ideas of violence, sea, America, women and the dark side with the ideology that its dangerous. All of these themes are repeated numerous times in the music video of Riptide.
The prominent parts of media language in the video is the mise-en-scene in some sections of the video. This comes when the same image of a women wearing makeup and singing are changed every shot where the make up gets more and more messy and her facial expressions go from happy to scared as a result of her singing the lyrics incorrectly as shown by the subtitles, compared to the correct lyrics that are sung at the time of the scene. There is also a distinct repetition in close ups throughout the video with the odd occasion showing the one person or one action is the most important thing in the shot. Lots of references to films.
